The Nepal earthquake that hit Kathmandu on Saturday 25th April was felt deep into India.  Although our schools  are over 200 miles from the epicenter, tremors were felt in the classrooms and the buildings suffered some minor damage to the rendering.

Our schools are mainly built with a reinforced concrete frame so they are quite safe, but some Indian schools are built of weaker materials and press reports are coming in of schools being badly damaged and one school in Barabanki District of Uttar Pradesh collapsing. As a result, the Indian Government ordered all schools to be closed whilst the aftershocks continue and to give time for buildings to be checked.  During the earthquake and large aftershocks, staff quickly took the children into the playground for safety.
