Capel LogoNew Rugs from Licensed Designers, Other Fresh Looks Prove Popular

TROY, N.C. — Powered by a slate of creative new products from its licensed designers and an assortment of special promotions and showroom amenities, Capel Rugs had a strong High Point Market this month with both attendance and written orders showing solid gains over recent markets.

Activity got off to a fast start on the morning of opening day, April 16, and showroom traffic for the first two days of market was up a robust 41% from last April’s High Point Market. Written orders also showed healthy increases, as retailers responded positively to a wide range of new designs.

“Business has been a bit tough for many retailers, so they came into our showroom looking for innovative products that offer a sharp value and a fresh look,” said Cameron Capel, vice president of national accounts. “With Capel, they know they’ll always find outstanding quality and attractive styling at prices that they are confident will sell. As a result, we had a really fantastic market with active placements across the line.”

Contributing to Capel’s success this market was its new “Uniquely Capel” initiative, which offered retailers a chance to relax and recharge while in the showroom. Amenities included free chair massages provided by licensed massage therapists, fresh Starbucks® coffee, an assortment of candy and Bellini cocktails in the afternoon and evening. The company also provided charging stations for mobile devices, enabling buyers to easily power up while shopping the space.

“Uniquely Capel is all about making our dealers’ jobs easier during market,” said Capel. “We wanted our showroom to be an inviting place where they could take a break from all the hustle and bustle that fills a typical day at market. The program was a big hit, and we’ll do it again at this summer’s Atlanta and Las Vegas markets.”

Seeking to arm retailers with the fresh products they need to spark new business in the spring and summer selling seasons, Capel Rugs introduced a variety of fashionable new designs at the April 16 to 20 High Point Market packed with style, quality and value.

Among the hits were two new additions to the popular WILLIAMSBURG® line of licensed “trend meets tradition” rugs — Ashland and Shalimar Resist. The first jacquard constructions Capel has produced for the WILLIAMSBURG program, the new Ashland and Shalimar Resist collections feature a blend of viscose, wool and cotton for a rich, textural feel with a touch of sheen. In addition, Capel Rugs also added three new colors to WILLIAMSBURG’s Filigree collection, an elegant transitional/traditional design with an overscaled damask pattern.

Capel 1“Buyers loved the look and feel of Ashland and Shalimar Resist, and the new on-trend colors added to Filigree, burwell green, grey and indigo, also were very well received,” Capel said.

Capel 2Also drawing rave reviews from retailers was Kevin O’Brien’s new machine woven Caravan collection. Made of 100% olefin, the six patterns convey “great depth and texture that is unusual for a flat woven product,” said Capel. Priced at $399 for a 5’3″ x 7’6″, this collection scored big points for its value, she added.

Capel 3Other winners for Capel during market included:

Capel AustinAustin: Casual and classy with a Southwestern twist, the Austin collection provides style and comfort in four exciting designs and colorways: Aztec in mist green, Geo in beige multi, Kirman in mist green and beige and Ushak in mist green and sand. Machine woven in Egypt of 100% olefin, a 5’3″ x 7’8″ rug may retail for $299.

Capel Viking StripeViking Stripe: A new hand knotted addition to the Genevieve Gorder line, which drew attention for its sheared down, “zero pile” design and unique color combinations of kettle/bone, alabaster/lapis, bone/ash and driftwood multi.
