“Thousands of Indian sellers have shipped bedding, jewelry, kitchenware and clothing to Amazon warehouses to serve bargain-hunting Americans.” according to a New York Times article Nov 26, 2017, Amazon, in Hunt for Lower Prices, Recruits Indian Merchants.
With India being the major supplier of rugs, Amazon’s move could change distribution. Will Amazon reach beyond their current rug suppliers who manufacture a large percentage of their inventory in India to their suppliers? With the compression of the supply chain, will the Indian sources be able to provide the design innovation and quality control standards that the current wholesalers and importers provide now? How are “returns” handled?
To easily locate Indian goods, Amazon has a special page Amazon.com/India There are a plethora of poufs, pillows, and bedspreads, but “Hot Weave” appeared to be the only supplier of scatters retailing from $19 – $129, mostly cotton flat weaves except for a polyester/viscose shag and a leather rug.
